How esoteric is this?

One thing you can say about Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel's "Rock" campaign ad: We don't have to worry about him breaking any promises.
Any philosophy professors out there want to talk about existentialism?

The former Alaska senator's seven-minute-and-41-second ad is called "Fire":
You can YouTube fascinating Gravel radio and video interviews here.

Okay, so this is all one big metaphor. Gravel hasn't been in policymaking for, what, twenty years? So he hasn't been making ay impact for a while, thus the staring into the camera. The rock represents him, the lake US politics. He's going to make a 'splash'...get it?

I have no idea what the fire one is all about, though. XD

Gravel definitely seems to have been inspired by Andy Warhol's films of the 1960's. Warhol had his "superstars" (including people well known today, such as actor Dennis Hopper) look into his camera and stare emotionless for many minutes. (The real actors, like Hopper, had great difficulty.)

Warhol also filmed a friend as he slept, another as he ate an apple, and eight hours (as I recall) of the camera trained on the Empire State Building. Despite the impression the description of these films leave you, they were actually more moving to the viewer than one would probably assume.

I wonder if he is going for something like the old camp song, earth my body, water my blood, wind my breath & fire my spirit
